MEet Pain D’EPI

Pain d’Epi, Team 5940’s eighth robot, was built to compete in FRC’s 2023 game: Charged Up. Presented by Qualcomm, the game consists of two competing alliances racing to place cones and cubes on nodes in the community grid. At the start of the game is a 15 second period called auto, where the robot autonomously places their cones and cubes. As soon as the bells ring, the drivers take over to battle other robots for the win. In the final moments of each match, alliance robots race to balance on their charge pad and score the final points!

Pain D’EPI FEATURES AND DESIGN

  • Cube Intake - Extending rollers based on last years intake

  • Cone Intake - An extra roll grabs a cone flange and flips it over to the end-effector

  • EndEffector - Double wheels can grab cones or cubes, with a beambreak to sense when the piece is in our possession

  • Wrist - the end effector can be angled to pick up and place game pieces by two belts and pulleys

  • Angled Elevator - We use dyneema to extend three carriages at an angle, allowing us to place cones and cubes with fewer DOF

  • Forks- The combined use of an elevator and rotation lift our robot off the ground

  • Swerve - Four MK4i swerve modules equipped with high traction blue nitrile tread

  • Autoplacement-Cameras sense the tape and April-tags to reliably place game pieces on their node
